Le Cateau-Cambresis, an authentic destination
in the Hauts-de-France ...
Nestlingin the Selle Valley, the town of Cateau-Cambresis occupies a privileged and strategic position, between the plains of Cambresis and the meadows of the Avesnois. A position that has marked its millennial history. The two towers that proudly dominate the town are the most emblematic witnesses. Among the must-see sites around the Hostellerie du Marché, are 4 classified monuments not to be missed!
- The Town Hall (built in the middle of the 16th century) and its belfry (built in 1705). - The Church of St. Martin (former Benedictine abbey) built from 1634. A true architectural jewel of Baroque art (Mannerist). - The Fenelon Palace: former secondary residence of the archbishops of Cambrai, lords of Cateau. The current building, between courtyard and garden, dates from the end of the 17th century and since 1982 has housed the Matisse Museum, an internationally renowned museum. - The Lefebvre-Scalabrino brewery, listed as a historic monument under the industrial heritage, has been renovated and houses the historic brewery of the Abbey that produces the beer "La Vivat".
